On the one-year anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks in Israel, the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) hosted with Michigan Lighthouse Ministries a press conference with more than 50 pastors from across Michigan. Demonstrating unified and unwavering support for the people of Israel and the right of the Jewish community to defend itself against terrorism and all who deny Israel’s right to exist, the event included a daylong policy summit and launched a grassroots campaign to activate pastors and their congregations to support Israel. CURE chose a church in the state of Michigan for this program because it is home to the largest Arab American population in the country. It is also home to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian American representative in the House of Representatives and one of the nation's most strident voices against Israel. Pastors were from across the political spectrum but stood together in opposition to much of the political machine in Michigan, a state where a sizeable chunk of the population is pro-Hamas. “Michigan is ground zero for antisemitic rhetoric and a racist attitude toward the Jewish people,” said Star Parker, Founder of CURE. “Faith leaders cannot allow this growing hatred and the Palestinian victimization narrative to stand. We must show our continued prayer and support for the Jewish people and help America’s greatest and most strategic ally in the Middle East defeat terrorism once and for all." Co-host of the event, Pastor Donald T. Eason, stated "Monday is a day of mourning, but it is also a time for us to show resolve and launch efforts to awaken the Church in Michigan with our ‘Evangelicals Stand with Israel’ campaign, get-out-the-vote rallies and activities before Election Day."
