CURE Visits D.C. Detention Facility to See Conditions of Detainees

July 29, 2021

On behalf of the Center for Urban Renewal & Education’s news outlet, Black Community News, Star Parker and Necho Carroll along with our directors of media and policy, today traveled to the Department of Corrections Central Detention Facility to report on the treatment of the Americans jailed for their participation in the January 6 riot at the Capitol building.

Star Parker, CURE’s Founder and President, said of the situation “There have been disturbing reports of how these Americans are being treated,” said Parker.  “We took our camera crew to the detention center to see first-hand how these prisoners are being treated and to see these friends in Congress pursue justice in this situation. The door was shut in their faces and makes you wonder what they are trying to hide.”

Following the visit, where four GOP lawmakers were barred from entering the facility, a press conference was held. CURE President Star Parker asked a question of the lawmakers.
