CURE Team Witnesses Members of Congress Expelled from Jail Holding Jan. 6 Detainees
For immediate release: July 29, 2021
Washington, D.C. – Today, on behalf of the Center for Urban Renewal & Education’s news outlet, Black Community News, Star Parker and Necho Carroll, along with our directors of media and policy, traveled to the Department of Corrections Central Detention Facility to report on the treatment of the Americans jailed for their participation in the January 6 riot at the Capitol building.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, Louis Gohmert (R-TX), Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and Bob Good (R-VA), were denied access to individuals being held and kicked out of the federal detention facility in D.C. for their alleged roles in the January 6 attack.
“To see duly-elected Members of Congress, including those who serve on the oversight committee of this facility, be kicked out was shocking,” said Necho Carroll, CURE’s Development Data Manager, who was inside the jail with the Members of Congress and was ousted with them. “The American people have a right to see and understand what has happened to those accused of these crimes.”
“There have been disturbing reports of how these Americans are being treated,” said Parker. “We took our camera crew to the detention center to see first-hand how these prisoners are being treated and to see these friends in Congress pursue justice in this situation. The door was shut in their faces and makes you wonder what they are trying to hide.”
