Washington, D.C.- Following the news of the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade, the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) weighed in on the decades-long fight for life and this historic moment for the unborn.

“Hiding behind the semantics of ‘choice’ and ‘reproductive rights,’ the abortion industry has made abortion on demand the law of the land and brought suffering to millions,” said Star Parker, founder, and president of CURE. “It’s time for the injustice of abortion to end!  Too many children have been lost—and the pain haunts those who make that choice, forever.”

In a leaked draft of a high court opinion by Justice Samuel Alito, he states, “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

“Our nation can move towards healing and can right this wrong by protecting the most vulnerable and ending this human tragedy,” said Parker.

While it wasn’t yet clear who leaked the opinion, CURE’s Senior Fellow, and former Indiana Attorney General, Curtis Hill warned: “As encouraging as the news is that the Court may take decisive action to upend Roe v. Wade, a major concern today is the breach of the integrity of the United States Supreme Court by whoever facilitated or participated in the leak of a draft decision to obviously weaken the Court. It is imperative that the Court act swiftly and decisively to investigate and identify the culprit(s).”

Recently, CURE released a report on “The Impact of Abortion on the Black Community”, in which CURE documents the long history of abortion advocates targeting Black women for abortions.

In the leaked opinion by Alito, the Justice notes “Some such supporters have been motivated by a desire to suppress the size of the African American population. It is beyond dispute that Roe has had that demographic effect. A highly disproportionate percentage of aborted fetuses are black.”

“Five years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s death, Roe v. Wade became national law,” said Parker. Since then, the number of black children aborted in America is heart-wrenching:19 million since Roe v. Wade was decided. Now, with the potential of overturning Roe v. Wade, pro-lifers are witnessing a new kind of history in the making.”

CURE is a policy and research center dedicated to fighting poverty and restoring dignity through messages of faith, freedom, and personal responsibility. CURE seeks free-market solutions to provide education, employment, healthcare, and the opportunity for black families to grow and their communities to flourish.
